The One Great Thing?

|

I've been (w)racking my brain and I can think of only one topic that is considered honorable, noble, beautiful, and all around virtuous by just about Everyone... and that is Adoption.

I think some look at adoption with a God-encompassing vision and can clearly see the amazing thing that it is. However others (Brad & Angela, Madonna, etc.) can look at adoption and see just as much beauty and nobility and splendor in it as well without a Kingdom-minded focus.

This truly fascinates me.

I think there are few things around that tap into the parts of us that go way beyond our 'views' and speak directly to our created souls... Adoption I believe is one of those.
Angelina Jolie in September with her adopted daughter Zahara.

I know several of you know tons about adoption... I'd love to hear your thoughts.

I have a couple of thoughts about adoption.
I think it speaks to the reality of being created in the image of God. Yes, that image is drastically marred, but it is not erased. There is still some remnant of compassion and grace because of the One in whose likeness we were made.
I think it also speaks to the universal desire to not only be loved but to love. There is that maternal/paternal instinct that exists in all of us. The heart of adoption is taking something that was not yours and making it yours for no other purpose than to love and nurture that child.

i think adoption is completely self-less, and unbelievably compassionate.

I would definitely agree with you! Debra is adopted and we too plan to adopt.
