Sunday I preached on Joshua 24 and the people's long history of Idolatry and how that is also relevant for us. Through my studies I found this quote that I am just loving.
“The idolater today is not one who bows down before some image, but is one who has mentally modified the God of the Scriptures so that He is now more attractive, more tolerant, more permissive, more loving, less denouncing, less damning, and less restrictive. Modern idolatry accepts biblical religion and the biblical God, BUT first modifies each to suit personal tastes. The result, is a Religion of convenience but no conviction; a god of personality but no sovereignty; and Believers who follow their feelings rather than faith.” ~ John Kachelman Jr.
In addition, Claire was in my office the other day just goofing around while I was preparing for Sunday morning. Out of nowhere she says, "Why did Jesus die on the Cross?" I began to explain why in 3-year old terms. She looks at me and says, "Why can't he get off?" It was at this point that I realized the powerful message my 3 year old daughter just reminded me of... (He could have, but He chose not to). I then went on to tell her how He lives in heaven and how his spirit lives in mommy's and daddy's heart and one day he can live in hers. She went back to her work and later said, "That's not fair... I want him to live in my heart." I just smiled and said, "He's closer than you know Claire."

Robert you did a great job on Sunday. I love you!
I love how little kids think!!! Bobby talked about God's eternality on Sunday. After church, we were talking about this at home and how difficult it was to wrap our minds around the fact that no one created God that He has been and always will be. One of the Shafer kids spoke up and said "I don't know why yall think its hard to understand. God is just like a circle, He doesn't have a beginning or an end." Of course, Bobby quickly shot down her creative mind by asking her who drew the circle. But still, I loved her simple faith.
Cool stuff Mr Conn ... what is your email address ?

First, thank you to my lovely wife for throwing me under the bus.
Tozer has a great quote that goes right along with what you are saying. "The essence of idolatry is having thoughts about God that are unworthy of God."
Bobby: I know... Tozer was dead on. I also used one of his quotes that said "The idolater simply imagines things about God and then acts as if they were true." (Good Stuff)

that is so sweet.
Random information, but when I tried to get to your blog my filtering software alerted me that I was trying to access information that contained adult content.
Nothing childish here Bobby.
