The Ascension

|

Today is Ascension Day. This is to celebrate the day Jesus ascended into heaven. However most of us never knew it was today. We did not hear about it last Sunday and we won't hear about it this coming Sunday. This year is odd because it is even more overshadowed by this

However, if Christmas is our celebration of the arrival of salvation, and Easter is our celebration over sin and death, then today must be our celebration of our reigning Christ. When Christ ascended to heaven, God placed all honor and power on him by placing him at His right hand. This is repeated several times in the NT (Acts 2:33-34; 5:31; Rom. 8:34; Eph. 1:20; Col. 3:1; Heb. 1:3, 13; 8:1; 10:12; 12:2; 1 Peter 3:22). Jesus is truly above all things (Eph. 1:21; 4:10; Col. 2:10; Phil. 2:9-11).

In addition, God made three promises to Christ in Psalm 110 (which speaks of the ascension).
  1. That He would defeat his enemies (v.1)
  2. That He would extend his kingdom (v.2)
  3. THat He would give him a victorious army (v.3)
Sometimes I forget that I serve a Savior who is not only risen and victorious over death, but also actively and passionately reigning at the right hand of God in heaven.

In all of your praying for schools, the military, presidents, and church staffs today don't forget to thank God for giving all authority and power to His son Jesus Christ!
