Today marks the 50th Birthday for NASA (at least that's what Google tells me). NASA was established on this day in 1958. However notice that a short 11 years later (1969) they successfully landed on the moon.

Here is what I think is crazy. I bet the founding fathers of NASA would tell you that landing on the moon (while a priority) was not the ONLY thing they hoped to gain from NASA. They hoped to learn a lot more about space, technology, and even mankind. But you and I both know that landing on the moon was probably the goal for those 11 years.

What does your church look like after 11 years? Has it dreamed big and seen those dreams come true? Has it looked so far into the future that it does things today that do not make sense, and will not until tomorrow?

How many people at NASA had to be like-minded? How many of them had to accept a far-out goal like walking on the moon? How many of them had to be 100% on board? I dare say all of them.

Way to go NASA, and Happy 50th Birthday!

I think the fear of dreaming big... because we might fail.. is the main factor in our failures. Being a space race kid, growing up drinking tang.. remembering exactly where I was when they landed (going over the railroad tracks in a red Ford Fairlane in Alta Loma TX) the dream of doing something that big ignited an energy in so many people that had absolutely nothing to do with it... I believe the same can and does happen when a church casts that kind of vision.

OK. I am with you on this train of thought but I must say, they were all rocket scientists and we aren't. Sad fact.
It is hard to fly like an eagle when you work with turkeys, my friend.

Rocket Scientists? How long had rockets been around?
You have to wonder if these guys were not just learning as they went. As it turns out they were right but I'm sure there were some doubts along the way.
