icon_google-calaboration.gifGoogle has finally made calendar syncing between Apple's iCal application and their cloud-based Google Calendar a little easier with the recent release of Calaboration, a downloadable tool which will bring all your Google Calendar events into iCal. Set up is easy, just follow the directions found here. It took me a few minutes to get all of calendars from Google into iCal, but it wasn't too difficult. Unfortunately, there are some frustrating limitations you should be aware of.

  • Your existing calendars and events already in iCal will not be moved into Google Calendar automatically.
  • You can't create iCal ToDo items and have them moved into Google Calendar.
  • Only pop-up reminders can be synced with Google Calendar when they are created in iCal.
Even with the limitations, it's a great step forward for people who like to use iCal when at their desktop, but want the convenience of Google Calendar when on the road.

Yes, they spell it "Calaboration"

I don't know...I'm still using a pocket calendar from the Dollar Store. I'm just not that advanced!
