Advance 09

|

"To advance the gospel not only in Raleigh/Durham North Carolina but in each of the represented cities, and ultimately to all peoples and people groups within the world."

That was sort of the overall mission/goal of this conference. The lineup was great: John Piper, Matt Chandler, Mark Driscoll, Tyler Jones, Eric Mason, Ed Stetzer, Bryan Chapel and others.

Things learned most from this conference:
1) I need to repent of much
2) I have many idols in my life that I never really considered idols but now see that they probably are.
3) I have allowed my bitterness towards others to overshadow my own sinfulness
4) Do I really want God to work in my life? Really? I say I do but do I really?
5) Good things that become God things end up being bad things.
6) I confirmed many other things this weekend as well. Things that I have been holding back on expressing fully but now I think I have the confidence to proclaim them humbly.

Things learned from the weekend:
1) My wife is still the most amazing and beautiful person I know
2) When my wife is in the room and we are talking together all other things fade away
3) The Marriot in downtown Durham does not have vending machines, a pool, or free breakfast
4) Thank God for the "map" feature on my iPhone. It saved our lives several times.
5) My new favorite place to eat is P.F. Chang's
6) Some rental cars smell like smoke but a Vanillaroma Christmas tree air freshener will help dramatically

Half the vacation is over... the other half is just beginning. I'm sitting outside in beautiful Maryland weather, listening to the birds, and looking forward to some "glorious sessions" with old friends.

Thank you Father in Heaven... I needed this break.

Wow! Sounds like it has been fruitful! Can't wait til you post some pictures. Also look forward to your expounding on number 5 in the first group.
And I LOVE PF CHANGS! You can get the same food at Pei Wei's (sister resturant of PF's) but cheaper and smaller portions.
Glad you and Shelly are having a great time!

Hey Shelly Mac,

I was referring to #2 and idolatry. There are many things in life that are good things (money, jobs, family, music, etc) that become bad things when we make them ultimate or "god things."

Any good thing that takes the place of God will become a bad thing.
