Powerful Testimony

|

Hey everybody you need to watch this video of a friend of mine from Southwestern. I've had a few classes with Jared and he truly is a great guy. This video is powerful!

Now We're Talking!

|

So my "Bible and Moral Issues" class is getting interesting. After several weeks of wallowing through words and concepts such as (metaphysics, existentialism, continental rationalism, etc) we are finally getting to have some fun.

Beginning next Monday we must present our first of 6 "reaction papers" to the class.  These papers are are topics whereby we write a 1-page description/stance and defense on the topic. We must read our paper in front of the class and then take any questions, criticisms, and comments as we defend our position in front of the entire class. Oh and by the way, the professor rewards exceptionally challenging or contradictory questions to the presenting student.

This week's topic: Divorce & Remarriage

Well for those who do not know I am in school too. So while thousands of kids will be headed off to school in the morning so will I. I'm talking 12 hours this semester which doesn't sound like too much but these are Master's level courses and I'm taking all them in one day. So I'll be in class from 8am to 9pm with only 1 hour for lunch. Add in an hour long commute to and from school and my Monday's are packed. Here is my Fall lineup...

8:00 - 10:40am ~ Exegetical Hebrew
This is my third and final Hebrew class. In fact it is my final Biblical languages class. For 7 semesters I have been cramming Greek & Hebrew vocabulary words, paradigms, syntax junk into this already too crammed brain. I'm ready to be done I tell you. You have no idea.

12:00 - 2:45pm ~ Old Testament I
This one is pretty straight forward. I started this class a couple of years ago but had to drop it because Greek was eating my lunch. But since then I have really grown to understand a whole lot more about the OT so I'm actually looking forward to this one.

3:00 - 5:45pm ~ Bible & Moral Issues
I think we discuss hot-button issues like abortion, divorce & remarriage, homosexuality, etc. I know it sounds interesting but remember I'm at a Baptist seminary... I doubt anyone is going to break out in defense of "life partners." But knowing me, I'll open a few cans of worms on some of the issues just to wake people up.

6:15 - 9:00pm ~ Intro to Expository Preaching
Pretty much like it sounds. We study preaching and then we preach (for a grade). Yes you read it correctly... We preach in front of other seminary students for a grade. Part of that makes me feel dirty.

The thing that is going to be a killer is all the papers I have to write and all the books I have to read. I am dreading being so stressed out but I know I do it every semester. The summer has been good for me and my family. Unfortunately, the craziness is about to start all over. However if I can get through this semester all I will have left is a couple of lighter semesters and I'll be done!

So if you think about it please pray for me and my family. Me being in school is SO hard on Shelly. You can imagine having 4 kids and a husband who isn't much help because he's too busy. Also pray for my rear end... that's a long time in the seat.

School

|

Every semester I realize about 3 hours after the fact that I am supposed to register that morning. Yesterday I went to the library around noon to finish a book report and as I was sitting there I remembered that I was supposed to register at 8:30am that morning for the Spring term. Fortunately, I was still able to get my classes. For the first time I'll be taking one of those I-term courses that run Monday-Friday from 8am to 5pm in early January. It will be hard but I'm so ready to be done it's pathetic.

Oh and why is school so stinking Expensive? Donations can be sent to...

I usually don't post direct comments about my schooling. Not sure why, I just don't want to sound arrogant or anything like that.

However, presently I am a little scared. Beginning Monday, I will begin to learn what this says.

I remember having this same feeling two years ago when I began Greek. Now, on the other side of four semesters of paradigms and brain strain... I'm glad I lost all that sleep. But because of that, I now know what's in store... Pray for me, really!
