Shelly, the girls, and I took a much needed break last week and headed over to East Texas with some friends. They had a lake house on Lake Palestine so we mooched in a few days of free lodging. Here are a few highlights.
The girls both got a stomach virus while there. It's been a while since I have been thrown up on but let me tell you, you never get used to it (parent or not). Still carries a 100% gross factor.
I needed a haircut before I left but could not get it done so I decided to find the smallest old school barber shop and try it out. I asked G. Love (she worked at the Dollar General in Flint) where I needed to go. She told me to drive over to Frankston and there was an old barber shop on the square downtown. So I drove and found it. I walked in there and I was the only person under 67. Not only that but I was the only person not smoking and wearing overalls. I heard more redneck stories in that 45 minutes than I have ever in my life. We talked about fences, Old Man Watson's mule, air conditioners, beer, and solved most of the world's problems. $6 later I walked out of there with a pretty good haircut, a old-school straight razor shave, and a new-found affection for my memories of my paw-paw Conn.
Got to ride over to Jacksonville Friday and see my Grandmother and Grandaddy. They are both 80 and still making tracts. They have been married 60 years and are two of the sweetest people I know. Ashlin, upon leaving said, "I love them" and "I could live here". Then she proceeded to hold her hands in the air and scream (like a rollercoaster) as we traveled down their hilly driveway. They also took us to eat at Chili's... always a good thing.
We're back and now I begin to tackle the Youth Room again. A little more paint, new carpet, and a few decorations and we will be in bid-ness.
