Worship on Thursday

|

Hey friends... I am going to be teaching a series on Worship coming soon and I wanted to get your input. The theme is "Worship On Thursday: Redefining Worship as a lifestyle"

The premise is this: It is easy for us (and especially students) to understand that we are to worship on Sundays and even Wednesdays. However, how do you worship God on Thursday afternoon, Saturday night, Monday morning, etc? Worship has become a term we use for the 20 minute set of music on Sunday morning. Is it possible that we are called to worship everyday? And if so how do we do that?

I would like your input on this... What topics should we cover for sure. I will have about 6 weeks to do this series so we can get pretty detailed.

Ok fire away!

Hi Robert, I think people again and again need to be challenged to worship God moment by moment in attitude as well as actions. Jesus' words to the woman at the well were, "A time is coming and now is when those who worship God will worship Him in spirit and in truth." (That is my loose paraphrase). For many, many years, people have sung, "I Surrender All," then driving out of the parking lot grit their teeth at the first stoplight. Worship is a way of life--not a performance. People have to be taught--because we have been so poorly taught!

Brilliant! Keep them coming!

Yes--Worship is the conduct of authentic life before God.

Hey Robert!
One idea for a lesson could be "Worship is not..." and then you could talk about the different things that we do that are not worship like disobedience, 'putting on a performance' in front of God or others, idolizing other things/people...get the idea?
So...yup, that's it.

"Worship is not--" is a good idea. Also, you can look at most any person in the Bible and see examples of people worshipping God in spirit and in truth. Worship includes both ordinary and extraordinary things. The thoughts of worship we have in ordinary times are tested in extraordinary times. Think of Esther.
