Half a Prayer

|

I pray with my kids a lot. I want them to know that prayer is more than that 15 second thing the deacons do on Sunday morning just prior to passing the plate.

Anyway, not every day but most days (usually at night) I add somewhere in my prayer this line, "May we learn to love You will all our Heart, Mind, Soul, & Strength." Pausing a little on each word to allow it to sink deep but always wondering if it does. And usually after that prayer Claire will ask me, "Why you say that?" to which I simply reply, "cause you need to know." I figure a more in depth answer will come later.

The other morning my wonderings were answered. I was praying for the girls as I left the house and said that very thing except shortened it for some reason. I only said, "May we love you with all our heart and mind... Amen." Claire (my almost 3 year old) immediately looked up to me and said, "You forgot soul and strength."

It may be simple rote memory for her but what a good thing to memorize.
