SPOILER WARNING: (don't read if you haven't seen the movie)

Anyone seen the movie Fireproof? Yeah, I had a chance to see it last year but something came up. Then I had a chance to see it when it came out in theaters but something came up. Then I started hearing mixed emotions about it from people which made me a little leary. Then our church decided to have a "showing" Friday night. So Shelly and I went. Mainly because it was free babysitting for a couple of hours (I'll be honest, I love my kids but sometimes I love when someone else has them)!

Acting: I went into the movie knowing that the acting was going to be a little labored. However, it only bothered me for about 5 minutes. They did a much better job this go round (referring to Facing the Giants). Plus having Mike Ceavers (sp) helped a bit too. It was also fun to see some of the cast return in different roles from the other movie.

Plot: To be honest, they tricked me. I was thinking that the husband would be the one to push for the divorce. I like how he was the one who had to do the hard work. Plus I like how his knee-jerk reaction to everything was to hit something. I think ALL guys related to that.

Theology: I've heard various posts bad-mouthing the movie's theology. Regardless of your view on marriage and divorce I think any movie that lifts high the understanding of marriage as a life-long covenant is a major plus. Was it perfect? No, but you know what? It was the best thing I've seen on marriage in many years.

Marketing: Man, what a brilliant idea to offer The Love Dare as an actual journal at every Christian Book Store. I'm not sure which came first, the movie or the book but either way it is a great follow up resource for those interested or needing additional help for their marriage.

Overall: Man, those guys over at that church in Georgia are good. They continually manage to make some very decent films which lift high the name of Jesus and reinforce a proper understanding of Scripture. I say great job and a great movie.

Here's the spoiler: They don't get a divorce... I know, it caught me off guard too.

I knew they weren't gonna divorce! A man doing the dishes??? Yeah, that wife knew a good one when she had one! No way she was gonna walk away from that one!

But more seriously, I liked it too. The acting was much better than Facing the Giants and any movie that you can sit down and watch with your kids that doesn't have poop and fart jokes in it is a plus.

And don't feel bad about the babysitting ... that certainly made it a "must do" for us too now that we are a family of 6.
I thank God for our church who is so supportive of our families to understand what an important ministry that is to us.
And I don't know whose "brain child" the whole movie night was but loved it!

Mr. Conn,
How goes the last leg of this beast called seminary? THREE MORE MONTHS LEFT. WAHOO!!!!!!!
Dude, can you tell me where you downloaded your blog template from. I am in the market for a new one myself, and I am leary about downloading one from just any website. Don't worry, I won't use yours.
Thanks
SEan

Sean, I can't help but think my life will change dramatically in 3 months. This last semester is both easier and more difficult at the same time. Easier in that I don't have to cram vocabulary words on Sunday night. However, more difficult because I am taking 15 hours which is a ton of work. However, I think I can hang in there for a few more months.

I downloaded the template here, however I 'altered' it a little.

there were a couple surprises there for me. Loved this movie. Like who bought the bed?? it was well done and the fact that Kirk Cameron will not kiss any woman other than his wife. Did you know that was his real wife in that kissing scene?? I did not expect to like this movie...it was awesome

Amy, I remember hearing that several months ago but I had forgotten about it.

So let me get this right? Cameron does not compartmentalize his life into secular and sacred? Huh? interesting...

Amy! You are a wealth of information! I didn't know that. Now are you also saying that the woman he is kissing at the end is is real wife not the lady who played his wife in the movie???
