The Reason: The reason this entertains me so much is because I am always asking myself this question.
The Scenario: If in the initial year, an event is held and called the inaugural, what is the event called the next year? First annual or Second annual? And why?
The Thread: This is perhaps the most entertaining thread (read: argument) that I've seen in a while. View the thread HERE
The Conclusion: I've always rested on the side that says the 1st Annual event is actually the 2nd time you do it. Much like my 1st Anniversary was after I had been married for a whole year. So if I throw a Christmas party for the first time (it would be wrong for me to call it the First Annual Christmas Bash). I could only call it that the second go round. Another option I am willing to entertain is upon the second event happening it becomes the 2nd Annual (and at the same time the previous event held the year prior becomes known as the 1st Annual...). Much like World War I & II. WWI was previously called The Great War (until the 2nd one came around). I just think it is wrong to have an event for the first time and call it "First Annual." It just sounds so pretentious.
The Question: Am I a total nerd for even posting this?

ummmmm. Yes you are a nerd but I think the more acurate diagnosis is PTSD. Post Traumatic Seminary Disorder. You might be in need of psychotrophic medication. Side effects may include but is not limited to dry mouth, nausea, blurred vision, diarrhea and/or anal itching.
Shelly, I'm pretty sure I don't have that. If I did, EVERYONE would know about it.
Shelly! You are funny! and right.
Rob, someone wrote anal itching on your blog. Disturbing, but I am laughing.
Robert, you are correct. I was taught in college NEVER to say or print "first annual."
According to my AP stylebook and libel mannual( or a reporter's bible), "An event cannot be described as annual until it has been held in at least two successive years. Do not use the term first annual. Instead, note that sponsors plan to hold an event annually."
So, if that makes me a nerd, then so be it. And, welcome to journalism 101...
YES! I'm vindicated.
You scare me Mandy.
